FAW - Defensive Rifle Skills Course
We are pleased to announce a new partnership between the Threat Management Institute and the Firearms Academy of Wisconsin to bring professional firearms training to the State of Minnesota.
Defensive Rifle Skills is a one-day course specifically designed around the most common rifle platform used by armed citizens in the United States—the AR-15–type semi-automatic rifle. Other rifles are welcome; however, the course of fire is structured around semi-automatic rifles using standard-capacity (30-round) magazines.
This is not a “military” or “SWAT team” course. Instead, it is designed for armed citizens in a defensive role, from novice and first-time rifle users to those with limited experience. It also provides a strong foundation for intermediate-level rifle owners.
Instruction covers:
• A history of the U.S. battle rifle
• Nomenclature, parts, and accessories
• Slings, sights, optics, and ammunition selection
Students will receive hands-on assistance in zeroing their rifles with iron sights, red dot sights, or optics. The course also explains the reasoning behind specific defensive zeroing distances based on sight type.
Students will perform a variety of shooting drills, including:
• Safe rifle operation
• Stances to improve accuracy
• Emergency reloads
• Grip and the Trigger Cycle
• Individual and partner movement
Required equipment:
Semi-Auto Rifle or Carbine
Eye and ear protection
Brimmed cap
Three magazines and a method to carry them on your body
A minimum of 500 rounds of ammunition
The course of fire includes engaging targets from 4 to 25 yards in a variety of shooting positions.
Tuition: $212.00
Multiple dates and locations available.
