MAG - Defensive Pistol Skills
Massad Ayoob has authorized the development of a course involving the defensive roles of a semi-automatic pistol within the Massad Ayoob Group curriculum. This course introduces tactics into the core StressFire system of Massad Ayoob.
The Defensive Pistol Skills course is an intermediate course in the defensive skills involved with a concealed pistol. Skills covered are safe gun handling based on the StressFire system developed by Massad Ayoob, drawing rapidly from concealment, speed reloads, the blend of speed and accuracy from close range to intermediate distances, and shooting with either Strong Hand Only and Weak Hand Only.
Each student will then perform several shooting drills including safely operating the semi-automatic pistol, stances to improve accuracy, speed reloads, and shooting with one hand, engaging multiple targets, malfunction clearances, grip, the trigger cycle.
Each student will need a minimum of three magazines. Each String of Fire is 36 rounds. If your three magazines do not hold 36 rounds total, you will need more magazines than three.
This course deals primarily with Interaction with Suspects within the Stages of Intervention from the course, “Armed Citizens’ Rules of Engagement.”
The Course of Fire includes firing approximately 500 rounds of ammunition from various distances, in a number of shooting positions.
Like all Massad Ayoob Group courses, current “Proof of Good Character” is needed.
Proof of Good Character is *ONE OF THE FOLLOWING*
a. Current State Issued Permit/License to carry a concealed handgun
b. Current Federal Firearms License
c. Current FOID Card (Illinois Residents Only)
d. Current Police or Military Identification
e. Other current proof of clean criminal record. Most Sheriff’s Offices will run these for you at a nominal fess, done routinely in many occupations.
